This record rules! It reminds me of early Ray Charles and the Chitlin Circuit from back in the day. The first single "North Side Gal" even sounds very similar to Charles' "The Mess Around", except JD's music is guitar driven. Not only are the songs on this record great, but the recording is unreal. JD and Co. have a studio (and label) in Chicago called Histyle that is based around a Belrant 1/4" four track and they primarily use only ribbon mics, and as minimally as possible. Solid.
